Lesson 3: Poised Under Pressure --- The First Key to Pivoting Well

I want to talk about poise. Not the kind of poise that looks good on

Instagram. Real poise. The kind that holds you together when everything

else is falling apart.

When my construction company went under, I had a choice in that moment.

I could panic --- and believe me, everything in me WANTED to panic. I

could make desperate decisions, burn bridges, point fingers. Or I could

stay poised. I could choose to see the situation clearly, respond

thoughtfully, and preserve my dignity and my relationships even in the

darkest moment.

I chose poise. And that decision --- more than anything else --- is what

made my comeback possible.

Here's what I've learned about staying poised under pressure. There

are three things that anchor you when the storm hits. Number one is your

VALUES. When you know what you stand for, you have a compass even when

you can't see through the fog. Number two is your VISION. When you know

where you're going, temporary setbacks don't throw you off

permanently. And number three is your VILLAGE --- the people around you

who speak truth into your life and hold you accountable.

So this week, I want you to practice poise in a very specific way. I

want you to identify ONE area of pressure in your life right now ---

business, personal, financial, relational --- and I want you to sit with

it instead of running from it. Write about it. Get honest about what it

is. And then write down three things: your values in that situation,

your vision for the outcome, and the one person in your village you can

call to help you stay grounded.

That's how you build poise. Not by being immune to pressure, but by

having the tools to stand in it without breaking.
