Lesson 5: The Victorious Mindset --- Winning Before You Win

Before I ever rebuilt my career, before I ever signed my first keynote

deal, before I ever got back on a stage in front of thousands of people

--- I had already WON in my mind. That's not magic. That's not

positive thinking for the sake of positive thinking. That is the

absolute foundation of every comeback I've ever seen.

The victorious mindset is about closing the gap between where you are

and where you're going --- in your head FIRST. It's about deciding,

with full conviction, that your best days are still ahead of you. And

then showing up every single day in a way that's consistent with that

belief.

Let me be clear: this is not about ignoring reality. I knew the reality

of my situation. I owed millions. My reputation was damaged. I had to

start from zero. I wasn't pretending that didn't exist. But I refused

to let that reality become my identity. I separated the circumstances

from the vision, and I held that vision with EVERYTHING I had.

Carol Dweck's research on the Growth Mindset is powerful here. In her

book Mindset, she demonstrates that people who believe their abilities

can be developed --- through dedication and hard work --- achieve far

more than those who believe their qualities are fixed. The victorious

mindset is the ultimate growth mindset. It says: "I don't have it all

figured out YET. But I will. And I'm going to show up every day like I

believe that."

Here's a practice I want you to implement this week. Every morning when

you wake up, before you look at your phone, before you check your email,

before you do anything else --- say out loud three things: who you are,

where you're going, and why you're going to get there. Make it

specific. Make it powerful. And say it like you mean it.

Because here's the truth: the battle for your pivot is won or lost in

your mind FIRST. Win the mind, and the rest will follow.
